Sussex Construction is a locally owned and operated company in Helena, Montana. Since 1996, we have been hard at work creating several quality Helena communities that include: Heron Creek, Ridgeview, and Sussex Park. The inspiration for our name came from co-founder Bekka’s childhood home – Sussex, England. Along with a penchant for tea and gardening, Bekka brought with her an understanding that homes should be built to last for generations to come.
Ron has been intrinsically involved in the building community of Helena. In 2003 & 2005 Ron was awarded the Builder of the Year award by the Home Building Industry Association (HBIA). Ron has been a part of the State of Montana Building Codes Council since 2009, and from 2011-2012 Ron was the Montana Builders Association President.
Executive Team
Ron is a Montana native with a business degree from Montana State University. He learned the art of construction and cabinetry from a master craftsman in Bozeman while attending MSU. He left home after college to serve the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan for two and a half years. After backpacking back to the States, Ron setup camp in his hometown of Helena MT. Together Ron and Bekka have built Sussex Construction from a small cabinetry and remodel business to a thriving design-build company. You will find Ron mountain biking, hiking, fly-fish on his raft, hunting, or making something with his hands in his spare time.
From a small village in Sussex, England, Bekka has always been happiest to messing about outside or with clay. Bekka’s love of gardening was nurtured at an early age by parents that immersed their children with the love of all things country-life, architecture, artistic, craft, and gardening. Little surprise that she found herself a life partner that shares these fascinations.
Together, Bekka and Ron started a construction company to pay forward the legacy of beautifully built structures that embrace the arts of traditional crafts combined with modern technologies to create heritage homes designed to last for many generations to come. They raise their two children, black labs, mouser, and hens surrounded by the breathtaking Elkhorn Mountains near Helena, MT. They ski, hike, bike, drift, and garden whenever they can.
Project Management
Darby is a Helena local who has traveled the world extensively. After living and teaching in New Zealand, she moved back to Montana to ski, boat, bike, hike, and raise her kids. She coordinates ordering for our projects throughout the design and construction process. Nothing gets by her meticulous gaze as she checks that all the “t’s” are crossed and the “i’s” are dotted. Basically, she’s the reason your windows will all open correctly on move-in day.
Design Team
Jonathan is a graduate of UC Berkeley, who brings a wealth of innovation and talent to our team. He is in charge of perfecting our homes’ drafting and interior design work along with overseeing our websites. With over 20 years experience in design software, web design, photography, and art, Jonathan is a wiz on computers and helps to streamline the design process for you. Growing up in Lake Tahoe, NV, Jonathan has a passion for the outdoors, and has traveled, and lived, all over the world. When he is not hard at work, you will find him remodeling his home, creating art in his workshop, or exploring Montana with his wife.
Lauren is a 2022 graduate of Montana State University. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design, and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Interior Design. She started as an intern for Sussex in 2019 and is now working as a Design Assistant. Lauren’s creative mind and peaceful spirit have lent themselves beautifully to many design needs at Sussex. When not at the helm of her Mac, you can find Lauren in the mountains of Montana, hiking and skiing.
Admin Team
Vickie is your first point of contact when visiting our main office. As our administrator, she keeps our office organized and efficient. She has lived in Helena since 1986 and enjoys all things outdoors, especially riding her prized Harley Davidson motorcycle. She spends most of her time with her three grown children and five grandchildren.
Courtney Gomez earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Montana Tech University. She worked in the public accounting sector for several years before joining Sussex Construction. She assists with the day-to-day bookkeeping functions by overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. When she is not in the office, she enjoys crafting, and spending time with her husband and three children.
